Proposal To Convert Historic Building In Belmont Hills Tabled
At a Lower Merion Township Building and Planning Committee meeting, Commissioner Mike McKeon (D, Ward 3 – Belmont Hills and Penn Valley) moved to table the discussion of a proposal that he himself had initiated.
The initiative, had McKean not tabled it, would have authorized “staff to submit a Certified Local Government (CLG) grant application to conduct a feasibility study to determine whether the Belmont Hills Community Center, a Class II Historic Resource, may be adaptively reused to provide affordable housing.”
McKeon called for the grant application to be tabled because he learned that none of the township’s first responders, for whom the repurposed community center would have provdided housing, would have qualified for affordable housing.
