Sounds Too Good To Be True – Lehigh Valley Company Says Rapid Antigen Self-Test Is In Human Clinical Testing
The Morning Call reported on Tuesday (August 11) that “OraSure Technologies Inc. believes it is nearing the finish line in the race to bring a rapid at-home coronavirus test into the market by the end of 2020.
To prepare, the Bethlehem diagnostic testing company joined state officials in Harrisburg on Tuesday to announce an expansion in the Lehigh Valley that will help the firm keep pace with anticipated manufacturing demand. The expansion will create 177 full-time jobs and retain 233 positions across three OraSure locations in Bethlehem and one in Bethlehem Township.”

And Governor Tom Wolf announced in a press release yesterday that “OraSure Technologies Inc., a developer and manufacturer of rapid diagnostic tests, collection and stabilization devices headquartered in Northampton County, will expand its manufacturing operations in the Lehigh Valley, creating 177 new, full-time jobs and retaining 233 jobs.”
The press release goes on to say that “OraSure (NASDAQ: OSUR) is developing a rapid antigen self-test that would detect active COVID-19 infection with no need to transport samples to a lab for processing. Individuals would be able to easily self-collect a sample and read the results themselves a short time later. The company intends to submit the antigen test to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization allowing for the rapid self-test to debut into the U.S. market.”
