At the contentious July 20 Lower Merion Township Commissioners meeting, Grant Schmidt, the 31-year-old owner of Shot Tec had three minutes (like everybody else) to make his case as to why he and his business should not be run out of town on a rail.
Here, Grant Schmidt makes the case for Shot Tec, without a timer running in the background
Even though he sells guns, Schmidt explains why Shot Tec is not “a gun shop.”
I grew up with firearms. It was more of a chore than something recreational … I always had CPR/First Aid training. I always carried a medical kit around – I came from a medical family … It was always that kind of attitude that I should never be a bystander to crime or victimization, medical events, etc.
I recently became religious and observant. I’ve always been Jewish. It’s always been a core part of my identity … I never felt safe at a synagogue … It’s actually a Mitzvah. It’s a series of Mitzvahs to protect innocent life.
I refer to that as Hoplophobia.
My goal for you is to have a really good time and learn the four rules of responsible firearms.
