Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Committee Conference in Dallas Sunday (July 11), former president, Donald Trump said, “But I just a day ago received a statement from the US attorney, highly respected, in Pennsylvania, that Bill Barr would not allow him to investigate voter fraud. Can you believe it? Now, you have to understand, Philadelphia is the second most corrupt place … so I understand, okay? So I understand … in the nation. You know what first is? Detroit. Detroit was so corrupt. Philadelphia was so corrupt. But the US attorney was not allowed to investigate what … this just came out in a letter. You don’t even know about this, Devin, right? Matt, that’s a big one. What do you think? We have a letter. You’ll have to get it from him because I want to stay out of it. Get it from the US attorney, but I’m sure he’ll be willing to provide it, but he’s given it to us. He was not allowed to do his job. And I saw that. He was all enthused, and then all of a sudden it was like he was turned off. And so were others.”

William "Bill" McSwain

William “Bill” McSwain, Former U.S. Attorney for Pennsylvania’s Eastern Division.

There are three U.S. Attorney divisions in Pennsylvania –  Eastern, Middle and Western. Trump didn’t mention any of their U.S. Attorneys by name, but It’s hard to imagine that Trump was not referring to William McSwain who oversaw the Eastern Division, which includes Philadelphia.

McSwain has been mentioned as a possible candidate to run in the 2022 Republican Gubernatorial Primary. In January of 2021 he resigned as U.S. Attorney, and in March of this year he formed an exploratory campaign committee for the governor’s race.

Now the foremer U.S. Attorney is going to be forced to either vouch for the former president’s claim, that Barr prevented him from investigating voter fraud, or  McSwain can find some other activity to occupy his time between now and the May 2022 primary.
