On the morning of April 19, 2008, 6,000 Main Liners gathered in the parking lot on the “outbound” side of Wynnewood Station. They were assembled there because they had a hunch that they might be able to see and hear a man who might soon become the President of the United States. Their hunch turned out to be correct.
Yup. It’s been 13 years since then-Senator Barack Obama took a 10-hour train ride from the 30th Street to Harrisburg.
Along the way, his train made several stops and he delivered a few speeches, including one at the Wynnewood Train Station in front what is probably the biggest crowd that community has ever seen.
The train also stopped and Obama spoke at the station in Paoli. Between Wynnewood and Paoli the train did some “slow rolls” through the stations in Bryn Mawr, Wayne and Parkesburg.
After Paoli, the train stopped and Obama spoke at stations in Downington, Lancaster and then finally in Harrisburg.

According to the Inquirer, “The plush, blue car in which Obama rode was the Georgia 300, built in 1930. Now privately owned, it has been used by numerous presidents and presidential candidates in recent years. It has a kitchen, two living-room areas, and a small bedroom.”
