State Reps To Discuss Spotted Lanternfly At Ludington

by Gerry

From the Official Website of Rep. Mary Jo Daley

BRYN MAWR, Sept. 4 – State Rep. Mary Jo Daley, D-Montgomery, and three other state representatives [Tim Briggs, Greg Vitali and Pam DeLissio from Montgomery County will host a Spotted Lanternfly Awareness Event from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Ludington Library, 5 S. Bryn Mawr Ave., Bryn Mawr, 19010.

Other state legislators hosting the event are Rep. Greg Vitali, D-Delaware/Montgomery; Rep. Tim Briggs, D-Montgomery; and Rep. Pamela A. DeLissio, D-Montgomery/Phila.

The guest speaker will be Heather Leach (She knows bugs!) from the Department of Entomology with Penn State Extension.

“This species of insect doesn’t belong here, and yet it’s become more than a nuisance in Montgomery and surrounding counties,” Daley said. “We intend to teach how it got here, what makes it such a pest, and what we can do to help combat its presence.”

As Penn State’s Department of Entomology points out, the state’s grape, tree-fruit, hardwood, nursery and landscape industries are at stake, potentially affecting crops and products worth nearly $18 billion annually.

Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
