Montco GOP Appears To Have Decided On A Candidate To Oppose Madeleine Dean in 2022.

by Gerry September 14, 2021

The @CN4PA4 campaign held its kickoff event last night in #LowerProvidence. The event was well-attended by Republicans excited to take back the 4th Congressional District next year! pic.twitter.com/jCxSvDoTU7

Unless another candidate comes along who wants to spend lots of money to win the right to lose to Madeleine Dean in next year’s 4th District Congressional race, it looks like that distinction is going to belong to Christian Nascimento.

In 2020, Dean defeated Republican Kathy Barnette in CD-4 by  264,637 (59,53%) to 179,926 (40.47%).

Nascimento kicked off his campaign on Thursday (September 9), in his home township of Lower Providence.

@MontcoPaGOP, the official Twiitter account of the Montgomery County Repubican Committee (MCRC) tweeted photos of the event, including one with MCRC Chair (and former Lower Merion GOP Chair) Liz Havey, who at this point, seems to be supporting Nascimento’s candidacy.

Nascimento lives in the Audobon section of Lower Providence Township, and has served as Chair of the Lower Providence Republican Committee. A graduate of Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School,  he is currently Vice President of Product at Comcast.

Nascimento was elected to the Methacton School Board in 2009 and re-elected in 2013.

In a video that appears on his website, Nascimento talks about his parents who immigrated to the U.S., and settled in Montgomery County. In the video Nascimento speaks about “radicals in Washington [who] are restructuring the U.S. economy, shuttering small businesses and dramatically driving up inflation. Leftist policies are politicizing our schools and making our streets far less safe for families.”

Who knows what the boundaries of the 4th Congressional District will be in 2022?

As a result of the 2020 Census, Pennsylvania will be losing one congressional district. So the maps of all the districts will be redrawn.

Currently, almost 98% of the 4th Congressional District is in Montgomery County, and almost 86% of Montgomery County is in the 4th Congressional District. But after re-pportionment, that could all change. It is totally conceivable that Dean and Nascimento won’t even live in the same district in 2022. On the other hand, the only residency requirement for congressional candidates is that they live in the state they represent. Although it’s politically improbable, in theory, a candidate from Erie could represent a district that’s  partially located in Montgomery County.

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

These Garments Have Been Politically Maligned

Most non-Arabs who wear the keffiyeh do not intend it to be Anti-Semitic in any way. They wear it as an expression of sympathy for Palestinian civilians, support for human rights, concern about war, or identification with a broader cause of national identity and self-determination. In their minds, it is directed toward Palestinians, not against […]

What Does My Fountain Pen Have In Common With The Former Lord & Taylor In Bala Cynwyd?

Both come out of the work of Raymond Loewy and his design firm. Raymond Loewy (1893–1986) helped define what modern America looked like in the mid-20th century. Through his design firm, he worked across an unusually wide range of industries—transportation, consumer products, branding, and architecture—often simultaneously. No one in history is more closely associated with […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
