On Wednesday (January 21), Gregory Manco file a lawsuit in Federal Court against St. Joseph’s University (SJU), claiming among other things, that SJU gave credence to completely false, unsupported, undocumented, and implausible allegations of racial bias, and then used those allegations to justify an investigation, suspension and non-renewal of his contract as a Visiting Professor of Mathematics, despite his dedication and excellent performance.

Manco was suspended, with pay, in February of 2021. It had come to light that he posted a tweet (using an anonymous account) expressing his opposition to reparations for the descendants of enslaved African Americans.
After having taught there since 2007, The University announced in July of 2021 that it would not renew Manco’s contract for the 2021-2022 school year.
At that time, Broad and Liberty wrote – When contacted for comment, the university gave no specifics about Manco’s situation, or the circumstances that necessitated his non-renewal.
“The University evaluates academic staffing needs each year and awards or renews contracts to visiting professors on an as-needed basis,” said Gail Benner, the university’s director of public relations and media. “A non-renewal does not affect an individual’s eligibility for future employment opportunities with the University.”
