On Tuesday (February 8) Mike Jensen wrote in the Inquirer – Man, a punch in the face does not even describe what Sessoms is playing through for Penn State this season. He lost his younger brother in September to Philadelphia gun violence. All the talk about a guy who plays with all his heart, while true, sounds empty.
On September 16, 2021, Sam Sessom Jr.’s brother, Sidney Sessoms, and his father, Sam Sessoms Sr. – were both shot in their home. Sessoms Sr. was seriously injured and Sidney Sessoms was killed. The ABC-6 coverage of the shooting did not mention either Sidney Sessom or Sam Sessoms Sr., by name
Only four months prior to the shooting of his father and brother, Sessoms’ six-year-old sister was shot in the leg while playing outside.
Despite all the trauma he’s been through, Sessom’s has managed to be productive on the court for the Nittany Lions, averaging almost 12 points per game. On Saturday night, he led Penn State in scoring (18 points)in a loss to Minnesota.
