For nearly 40 years, owner Gloria Stein held court at Narberth Natural Foods on Haverford Avenue (the place was often referred to as “Gloria’s”). Today, it’s the location of Coco’s Thai Bistro.
At Gloria’s you could get all your “nutraceuticals” in the front of the store, organic foods were in the middle, and if the cook was working that day, some pretty good food at the cafe in the rear. You also got to hear Gloria’s opinions (whether you were interested or not) about the news of the day, the stock market and anything else that she happened to be thinking about at that particular moment.
I use to work for Gloria…it was the best job I ever had! I helped the amazing chef Leslie and learned so much. I also waited on the tables…great job!
