On Wednesday night (December 6), five members of Landsdowne Borough Council voted to rescind their own November 15 resolution, “Condemning the Attack by Hamas, and Rising Antisemitism and Islamophobia in Our Community.” The November 15 resolution passed by a vote of 7-0. Only Council President Ben Hover voted to keep the resolution in place.
“Public Comment” was emotional and often became acrimonious, with speakers expressing support for and against the original resolution. Some of those who favored the motion to rescind voiced concern that Council hadn’t followed proper procedure before passing the Anti-Hamas Resolution. Others complained that Council shouldn’t weigh in on international issues. But by far, what drew the most attention was what numerous speakers described as the “war crimes”, apartheid” and “genocide” being perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian People.
