Gregg Downer Just Won His 700th Game With Lower Merion. He Also Beat Them When He Played For Penncrest.

Lower Merion High School’s basketball team beat Haverford High (December 20, at Haverford). It was a “special T-Shirt” occasion, as Gregg Downer guided the Aces to their 700th win as their head coach.

Before Downer won his first game with Lower Merion against Upper Darby on Dec 21, 1990 (The Aces lost their first five games with Downer at the Helm), before a 14-year-old freshman named Kobe Bryant played his first game on December 11, 1992 (a loss to Haverford School), before Downer’s Aces won 17 Central League Championships, four District 1 Titles and three State Championships – Gregg Downer played against Lower Merion, at Lower Merion, and scored 10 points to help his Pennrest Lions beat Lower Merion.

Downer had a solid collegiate career as a point guard at the University of Lynchburg.
