by Gerry November 28, 2023

On October 13, Bryn Mawr Billionaire Michael Rubin made his debut as a “guest investor” on the ABC show Shark Tank.

From the Shark Tank Website –

Michael Rubin, noted internet entrepreneur, philanthropist and social justice advocate, has built several multibillion-dollar direct-to-consumer companies. Driven by a deep passion for business and a life-long love of sports, Rubin is CEO of Fanatics, a global digital sports platform that is reimagining the fan experience across many different businesses, including licensed merchandise, physical and digital trading cards and collectibles, and sports betting and gaming. He is a board member of Rue Gilt Groupe, the premier off-price, e-commerce destination that includes RueLaLa.com, Gilt.com and ShopPremiumOutlets.com. He also founded GSI Commerce, which was sold to eBay in 2011 for $2.4 billion.

Philadelphia Business Journal reported that – Rubin is one of the wealthiest Americans, with a net worth of $11.5 billion as of October, according to the latest Forbes 400 list of the nation’s richest people. Rubin’s net worth has spiked nearly 230% since 2021 as Fanatics has struck partnerships with sports leagues, gone on an acquisition spree and leaned into areas outside of merchandise like sports betting. Rubin ranks at No. 61 on the national list, up three spots from No. 64 last year. Earlier this year, he ranked at No. 151 on Forbes’ annual World’s Billionaires list, jumping more than 100 spots from No. 284 in 2022.

I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

These Garments Have Been Politically Maligned

Most non-Arabs who wear the keffiyeh do not intend it to be Anti-Semitic in any way. They wear it as an expression of sympathy for Palestinian civilians, support for human rights, concern about war, or identification with a broader cause of national identity and self-determination. In their minds, it is directed toward Palestinians, not against […]

What Does My Fountain Pen Have In Common With The Former Lord & Taylor In Bala Cynwyd?

Both come out of the work of Raymond Loewy and his design firm. Raymond Loewy (1893–1986) helped define what modern America looked like in the mid-20th century. Through his design firm, he worked across an unusually wide range of industries—transportation, consumer products, branding, and architecture—often simultaneously. No one in history is more closely associated with […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them. Whether you’re a serious collector, someone who misses the feel of writing by hand, or just […]
