Interboro School Official Denies Using Racial Slurs at Blue Lives Matter Counter-Protest

Interboro School Official Denies Using Racial Slurs at Blue Lives Matter Counter-Protest

One petition on Change.org calls for the removal of Christine Alonso from her position as Treasurer of the Interboro School District.

Another petition, also on Change.org, is a call to support her.

Delco Christine Alonso Petitions

On Monday (August 3), Victor Fiorillo reported in Phillymag.com that “In the hours following Saturday’s protests [in Ridley Township, on Saturday], accusations began flying against local resident Christine Alonso, who happens to be the treasurer of the Interboro School District board, as well as the board’s community outreach liaison. The district serves about 3,600 students in the very white boroughs of Prospect Park, Tinicum, Glenolden, and Norwood.”

Anonymous Source said she used Racial Slurs

According to Fiorillo, “One person who attended the rally in support of the Black Lives Matters contingent told me that she heard Alonso use racial slurs against protesters at least twice. (The woman, who lives in the neighborhood, asked to remain anonymous because she says she’s fearful of retaliation.) There were also suggestions that Alonso was seen at one point carrying a Confederate flag.”

Alonso does not deny that on Saturday (August 1) she was in Ridley Park and took part in  a “Blue Lives Matter” counter rally to a Black Lives Matter protest. But according to Fiorillo, Alonso insisted that she did not wave a confederate flag or using any racial slurs.

There do not appear to be any named sources who can confirm the allegations made against Alonso.

At 1:06 of this ABC-6 video, Alonso  appears to be shouting something. She told Fiorillo that the words she can be seen mouthing in the video were, “I am so racist, yet I fought for you.” Alonso is an Army veteran who served in Iraq.

There’s a new video out and circulating the web that shows Alonso screaming at the protesters that they need to go get their welfare check, calling them hoes, and saying she knows they don’t have a job.

The change.org petition has a lot of updates on it and I believe the video is in one of the updates.

This is an unsubstantiated charge by a single anonymous “neighbor.” Definitely not news-worthy unless you are adding further corroborating evidence..

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

These Garments Have Been Politically Maligned

Most non-Arabs who wear the keffiyeh do not intend it to be Anti-Semitic in any way. They wear it as an expression of sympathy for Palestinian civilians, support for human rights, concern about war, or identification with a broader cause of national identity and self-determination. In their minds, it is directed toward Palestinians, not against […]

What Does My Fountain Pen Have In Common With The Former Lord & Taylor In Bala Cynwyd?

Both come out of the work of Raymond Loewy and his design firm. Raymond Loewy (1893–1986) helped define what modern America looked like in the mid-20th century. Through his design firm, he worked across an unusually wide range of industries—transportation, consumer products, branding, and architecture—often simultaneously. No one in history is more closely associated with […]

January 16-18: The Philly Pen Show — A Delightfully Analog Experience

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them.
