Target to Replace Acme in Wynnewood?

Target to Replace Acme in Wynnewood?

Lower Merion Township Zoning Officer, Michael Wylie, confirmed today that Target Stores has submitted a request to the township to operate a store in the “Acme Location” in Wynnewood. Acme has announced that it plans to close that store at the end of this month. Wylie indicated that at this time, he couln’t see any reason why Target’s request would be denied, since it would be one retailer replacing another.

On the other hand, just because Lower Merion Township approves Target’s request, there is no guarantee that they will open a store in Wynnewood. In December of 2017, Target announced that it was going to open a store in Ardmore, but those plans have since been shelved.

The closest Target store to the Wynnewood location that is now under consideration, is on City Line at Monument Road (4.6 miles).

Wylie said that Target’s request was for the entire space that Acme currently occupies.

Why not? Target sounds great there? They wanted to build one at Ardmore and Lancaster and that was shouted down. You realize another grocer would most likely not jump in there for a long time, if ever. Would you rather see a vacant store with no tax revenue? There’s a reason Acme is closing, you know. There are tons of grocery stores within a mile. Meanwhile, Target still has a nice grocery area. Why does everyone always hate on Target?! Target is an excellent resource.

Way too small for a store like Target. I would like to to see a small grocery or produce store there as that site has been held as a supermarket since the days A&P grocers!

I agree, Tony. Way too small for a Target and I believe it should remain grocery space. Would love to see Mom’s Organic or some other organic food store, just not a Target.

I agree. Mom’s organic food store would be perfect

Family Learning To Luge

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

These Garments Have Been Politically Maligned

Most non-Arabs who wear the keffiyeh do not intend it to be Anti-Semitic in any way. They wear it as an expression of sympathy for Palestinian civilians, support for human rights, concern about war, or identification with a broader cause of national identity and self-determination. In their minds, it is directed toward Palestinians, not against […]

What Does My Fountain Pen Have In Common With The Former Lord & Taylor In Bala Cynwyd?

Both come out of the work of Raymond Loewy and his design firm. Raymond Loewy (1893–1986) helped define what modern America looked like in the mid-20th century. Through his design firm, he worked across an unusually wide range of industries—transportation, consumer products, branding, and architecture—often simultaneously. No one in history is more closely associated with […]

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them.
