Proposed Map Splits Lower Merion And Narberth Into Two PA House Districts

by Gerry December 17, 2021

LM Districts

A proposed new map, drawn by the Legislative Reapportionment Commission, a five-person panel made up of the four top legislative leaders from both parties and a nonpartisan chairperson selected by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court – splits Lower Merion and Narbeth into two Pennsylvania House Districts.

There are 203 State House Districts. Each one has a population of about 64,500.

Currently, Lower Merion and Narberth are broken into four districts. But if the proposed map is implemented, and it probably will be,   Lower Merion will no longer be a part of the 166th District, which currently includes a part of Bryn Mawr – or the 194th District, which includes Belmont Hills and parts of Cynwyd and Penn Valley.

Ward Breakdown For The New Legislative Map

All of Narberth remains in the 148th District. The following Lower Merion Wards are also in the 148th District –

  • Ward 1 –   Penn Valley
  • Ward 2 –   Penn Valley and Gladwyne
  • Ward 3 –   Belmont Hills and parts of Penn Valley and Bala Cynwyd
  • Ward 5 –   Precincts 1 and 2, Wynnewood
  • Ward 7 –   Wynnewood
  • Ward 9 –   Bala Cynwyd
  • Ward 12 – Merion
  • Ward 13 – Bala Cynwyd
  • Ward 14 – Penn Wynne

And in the 149th District

  • Ward 4 –    Ardmore
  • Ward 5-     Precinct 3, Wynnewood
  • Ward 6-     Rosemont and Villanova
  • Ward 8 –    Ardmore and Wynnewood
  • Ward 10 –  Haverford
  • Ward 11 –  Rosemont and Villanova

Want to Try Luge? From Lower Merion, It Starts With a Drive to Lake Placid

I was watching the Luge on NBC over the weekend. I thought it was boring, especially when juxtaposed against the more dramatic events, like curling.  The color commentator kept explaining how each “slider” was doing something slightly better or worse than the others, but to my untrained eye, they all looked the same: feet first, […]

These Garments Have Been Politically Maligned

Most non-Arabs who wear the keffiyeh do not intend it to be Anti-Semitic in any way. They wear it as an expression of sympathy for Palestinian civilians, support for human rights, concern about war, or identification with a broader cause of national identity and self-determination. In their minds, it is directed toward Palestinians, not against […]

What Does My Fountain Pen Have In Common With The Former Lord & Taylor In Bala Cynwyd?

Both come out of the work of Raymond Loewy and his design firm. Raymond Loewy (1893–1986) helped define what modern America looked like in the mid-20th century. Through his design firm, he worked across an unusually wide range of industries—transportation, consumer products, branding, and architecture—often simultaneously. No one in history is more closely associated with […]

f you’re looking for a break from screens, alerts, and endless scrolling, the Philly Pen Show might be the cure—at least temporarily. It’s an unapologetically analog event: pens, paper, ink, and the people who still care deeply about them.
